Overview
Echocardiography in the patient with ARVD may demonstrate an enlarged, hypokinetic right ventricle with a paper-thin RV free wall. The dilatation of the RV will cause dilatation of the tricuspid valve annulus, with secondary tricuspid regurgitation. Paradoxical septal motion may also be present. Echocardiography should be used to exclude primary valvular heart disease, left to right or right to left intracardiac shunts, myocarditis, or focal wall motion abnormalities suggesting ischemic heart disease.
