Dietary inflammatory index

Overview
The Dietary inflammatory index (DII) was developed in 2009 to measure the role of inflammation induced by diet and cardiovascular disease.[1] The rationale was based on the association between inflammatory states and cardiovascular disease.[2]
Dietary Inflammatory Index
The components of the Index are listed at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2777480/table/tbl2/ with larger scores indicating greater anti-inflammatory effects of foods.[1]
The Index has also been scored for populations.[3]
Association with diseases
The index was associated with cardiovascular disease in the PREDIMED study.[4]
The DII was found to be associated with colorectal cancer in two observational studies[5][6], although the significant was only significant in men in one study[6].
