Glycerol 3-phosphate
(Redirected from Glycerol-3-phosphate)
Overview
Glycerol 3-phosphate is a chemical intermediate in the glycolysis metabolic pathway. (It should not be confused with the similarly named glycerate 3-phosphate or glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate.)
Function
Dehydrogenation of L-glycerol 3-phosphate produces DHAP and is part of the entry of glycerol (sourced from triglycerides) into the glycolytic pathway.
The glycerol 3-phosphate shuttle is used to rapidly regenerate NAD+ in the brain and skeletal muscle of mammals.
