* Asymptomatic
* Incidental finding
* Variable size
* Clear to straw-colored fluid
* Rupture of a simple renal cyst can cause hematuria and/or flank pain
* Oval shape anechoic mass on U/S
* Well-marginated lesion with thin smooth walls
* Strong posterior acoustic enhancement
* Cyst surrounded by a single layer of flattened , cuboidal, or atrophic epithelium


* Fever, chills, night sweats, and abdominal pain
* Hematuria, pallor, and weight loss




* Costovertebral tenderness




* Elevated WBC count
* Elevated ESR and CRP


* Well defined hypoechoic area within the corticomedullary parenchyma on U/S
* Well defined mass of low attenuation with a thick, irregular wall or pseudocapsule on CT
