He named this disease as Goutte Asthenique Primitive or Primary Asthenic Gout. The name Rheumatoid arthritis was coined by Archibald Garrod in 1890. In 1970, human leukocyte antigen (HLA) was first implicated in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis.
