Overview
On MRI, Warthin's tumor is characterized by well-defined bilateral lesions which are heterogeneous and variable in signal intensity.
Key MRI Findings in Warthin's tumor
- MRI is the most appropriate imaging study for these tumors[1]
- MRI can easily differentiate between benign and malignant parotid lesions by evaluating
- lesion margins,
- SI of cystic content,
- extraglandular infiltrative growth pattern,
- cervical lymph nodes,
- Ill defined images will suggest malignancy
- Hypointense capsule and well defined margins are characteristic of benign lesions
- T1: low to intermediate signal with cyst containing cholesterol components
- T2: heterogenous and variable signal intensity
- T1 C+ (Gd): usually no contrast enhancement[2]
