Overview
MRI scans can assess ventilation defects in patients with primary ciliary dyskinesia PCD, along with dextrocardia if present.
MRI
Hyperpolarized gas ventilation MRIs are performed in children to asses ventilation defects. Ventilation defects were detected in the middle and lower lobes, but there were often additional ventilation defects present in the upper lobes, possibly caused by mucus plugging that precedes structural change these images are suggestive of PCD in children.
