FDA-Labeled Indications and Dosage (Adult)
Hypertension
Upon patient presentation: 3 IV boluses of 5 mg each at 2-minute intervals.
Fifteen minutes after full IV dose (15 mg): initiate 50 mg ORALLY every 6 hours for 48 hours
If unable to tolerate the full IV dose: initiate 25 to 50 mg ORALLY every 6 hours for 48 hours.
Lopressor may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents.
Angina Pectoris
Lopressor is indicated in the long-term treatment of angina pectoris.
Myocardial Infarction
Lopressor ampuls and tablets are indicated in the treatment of hemodynamically stable patients with definite or suspected acute myocardial infarction to reduce cardiovascular mortality. Treatment with intravenous Lopressor can be initiated as soon as the patient’s clinical condition allows (see Dosage and Administration, Contraindications, and Warnings).
