Overview
Currently, there are no vaccines available for EV-D68 infections. Preventive measures such as hand washing, avoiding contact with sick people, and disinfecting touched surfaces are recommended.
Primary Prevention
- There is no vaccine available against non-polio enteroviruses, including EV-D68. Since many people infected with this virus are asymptomatic, it is difficult to prevent EV-D68 from spreading.
- CDC recommends preventive measures to avoid transmission[1], such as:
- Wash hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds, especially after changing diapers.
- Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Avoid kissing, hugging, and sharing cups or eating utensils with people who are sick.
- Disinfect frequently touched surfaces, such as toys and doorknobs, especially if someone is sick.
