Overview
Echocardiography is useful in the evaluation of right ventricular function and the detection of acute cor pulmonale or intracardiac shunt among patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).

Echocardiography is useful in the evaluation of right ventricular function and the detection of acute cor pulmonale or intracardiac shunt. Furthermore, echocardiography allows for optimizing ventilatory strategies by adapting ventilator settings to the response in the right ventricular function.
