Overview
Effective measures for the secondary prevention of celiac disease include avoiding gluten-containing diet, vaccination against encapsulated organisms in individuals with hyposplenism, vitamin and nutrient replacement, and preventive measures for osteoporosis.
Secondary Prevention
- Avoiding gluten-containing diet is the only proven secondary preventive measure.[1]
- If hyposplenism ensues, vaccination against encapsulated organisms such as meningococci and St. Pneumoniae is important.
- Vitamin replacement therapy is another aspect of secondary prevention.
- Bone loss prevention must take in to consideration to decrease risk of osteoporosis.
