X Ray
There are no x-ray findings associated with horseshoe kidney, other than lower renal outline than normal kidneys and through visualization of the perinephric fat in association with an altered renal axis. However, an x-ray may be helpful in the diagnosis of complications of horseshoe kidney, which include:[1]
- Hydronephrosis due to obstruction:
- Renal enlargement
- Cortical thinning
- Rim sign
- kidney stone which might be visible on x rays of the kidneys, ureters, and bladder (KUB).
