Overview
PSVT may be classified into several sub types based on underlying mechanism of tachycardia and ECG findings. Based on the on the underlying mechanism of tachycardia PSVT can be divided into AV nodal reentry (AVNRT) AV reentry (AVRT), atrial tachycardia, sinoatrial nodal reentrant tachycardia (SANRT), intra atrial reentrant tachycardia (IART), junctional ectopic tachycardia and nonparoxysmal junctional tachycardia. ECG findings include 2 subtypes: Short RP interval tachycardia and long RP interval tachycardia.
Classification
- PSVT can be classified based on the underling mechanism and ECG findings.
- PSVT may be classified based on the underlying mechanism of tachycardia into [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]
- AV nodal reentry (AVNRT)
- AV reentry (AVRT)
- Atrial tachycardia
- Sinoatrial nodal reentrant tachycardia (SANRT)
- Intra atrial reentrant tachycardia (IART)
- Junctional ectopic tachycardia and nonparoxysmal junctional tachycardia (nonreentrent tachycardia, rare in adults, however represent a common cause of PSVT in children )
- PSVT may be classified based on the ECG appearance into [2]:
- Short RP interval tachycardia [3][4][8]:
- Prolonged RP interval tachycardia [7][9][10]:
- Atypical AVNRT (fast-slow)
- Atrial tachycardia
- Sinoatrial nodal reentrant tachycardia (SANRT)
- Permanent junctional reciprocal tachycardia (PJRT)
