Overview
An isolated thrombocytopenia in peripheral blood smear (PBS) is diagnostic of ITP. As diagnosis of immune thrombocytopenia is diagnosis by exclusion.
An elevated/reduced concentration of serum/blood/urinary/CSF/other [lab test] is diagnostic of [disease name].
OR
Laboratory findings consistent with the diagnosis of [disease name] include [abnormal test 1], [abnormal test 2], and [abnormal test 3].
OR
[Test] is usually normal for patients with [disease name].
OR
Some patients with [disease name] may have elevated/reduced concentration of [test], which is usually suggestive of [progression/complication].
OR
There are no diagnostic laboratory findings associated with [disease name].
Laboratory Findings
There are no diagnostic laboratory findings associated with [disease name].

1.An isolated thrombocytopenia in peripheral blood smear (PBS) is diagnostic of ITP. As diagnosis of immune thrombocytopenia is diagnosis by exclusion, other abnormalities in PBS may indicate other disease rather than ITP, such as shistocytes in patients with TTP or HUS and leukocyte inclusion bodies in MYH9-related disease.
2.Indications of Bone marrow evaluation (including morphologic assessment, flowcytometry, cytogenetic testing) in ITP:
- age older than 60 years
- constitutional symptoms
- splenomegaly
3.Flowcytometry is helpful in identifying patients with ITP secondary to CLL.
4.Baseline quantitative immunoglobulin level;
- Low level of immunoglobulin may reveal conditions such as common variable immunodeficiency. Treatment of ITP in CVID is contraindicated.
5. anti platelet antibodies ( glycoprotein specific antibody) are non-specific and are high in both immune and non-immune thrombocytopenia.
6. ANA is indicated of chronic ITP in children.[1]

Laboratory findings consistent with the diagnosis of [disease name] include:
- [Abnormal test 1]
- [Abnormal test 2]
- [Abnormal test 3]

Some patients with [disease name] may have elevated/reduced concentration of [test], which is usually suggestive of [progression/complication].
