Definitive diagnosis is made using MRI.

MRI reveals characteristic signs;
Double line…two lines located at the periphery of the cavity, outer low signal and inner high signal.
Penumbra sign… discrete peripheral zone of marginally higher signal intensity than the abscess cavity and surrounding marrow sclerosis.^[1]
