The diagnosis of metabolic syndrome is mostly based on physical examination and lab tests. The symptoms seen in metabolic syndrome are indicative of the component disorder like hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia and polycystic ovarian syndrome. Also, dietary, family, social and medical history are important tools in the diagnosis.
History
Obtaining the history is the most important aspect of making a diagnosis of metabolic syndrome. It provides insight into cause, precipitating factors and associated comorbid conditions.
Symptoms
Symptoms that can be seen in some of these diseases are:[1][1]
- Diabetes - increased hunger, thirst, or urination.
- Hypertension - headaches, fatigue, dizziness, blurred vision, facial flushing or tinnitus.
