Overview
Other diagnostic studies include injection of calcium gluconate into splanchnic arteries and venous sampling searching for insulin.
Other Diagnostic Studies
- In the case of failed imaging investigations to diagnose insulinoma, calcium gluconate injection test is done.
- This test can be performed to distinguish between insulinoma and islet-cell hypertrophy as follow:
- Injection of calcium gluconate into splanchnic arteries and venous sampling for insulin.[1]
- In insulinoma, the test is positive in a single artery.
- Islet-cell hypertrophy will cause positive test in multiple arteries.[2]
