Overview
Patients with rheumatoid arthritis may have a positive history of the family history of RA, history of smoking and other autoimmune disease. Common symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis are joint pain involving small joints of the hands, wrist, and foot, joint swelling, morning joint stiffness classically lasting for more than an hour, decreased grip strength, generalized aching, and fatigue, weight loss, depression. Less common symptoms include tingling and numbness, and weakness in the arm.
History
Patients with rheumatoid arthritis may have a positive history of:
Symptoms
Common Symptoms
Common symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis include:[1][2]
- Joint pain involving small joints of the hands, wrist, and foot
- Joint swelling
- Morning joint stiffness classically lasting for more than an hour
- Decreased grip strength
- Generalized aching and fatigue
- Weight loss
- Depression
Less Common Symptoms
Less common symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis occur when it involves cervical spine, which leads to neurological symptoms like:
Vertigo. Rheumatoid arthritis may have the following associations that can cause vertigo:
- Ménière's disease[3][4]
- "Biologic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs"[5] This may not happen in the abscence of infection.[6]
- Atlanto-axial joint instability[7].
- Atypical Cogan's syndrome (CS)[8] Typical Cogan's syndrome has been improved with biologic drugs.[9][10]
