Overview
Risk factors for multi-drug resistant tuberculosis include exposure to an individual with MDR-TB, previous TB treatment, HIV infection, and a low socioeconomic status.
Risk Factors
- Exposure to a patient with MDR-TB
- Previous TB treatment
- HIV infection
- Previous incarceration
- Failed TB treatment
- Relapse following standard TB treatment
- Low income and low socioeconomic class
- Adverse reactions of the drugs used in the treatment of tuberculosis contribute to the cease of the drug regimen and increases the probability of multi-drug resistance. Direct observed treatment plays an important role to avoid drop-outs from tuberculosis medical regimen, which is an important risk factor for developing resistance to the standard medical regimen.
