Overview

Gasping syndrome is a life-threatening condition in neonates characterized by multi-system failure and death following the administration of benzyl alcohol, in the form of bacteriostatic sodium chloride and bacteriostatic water.

Symptoms

• Gradual neurologic deterioration
• Severe metabolic acidosis
• Sudden onset of gasping respiration
• Hematologic abnormalities
• Skin changes
• Hepatic failure
• Renal failure
• Hypotension
• Cardiovascular collapse

• Lincomycin Hydrochloride
