  • Elderly postoperative patients
  • Sever local unilateral parotid pain
  • May have high fever, chills, trismus, and dysphagia
  • History of dehydration or intubation
  • Elevated WBC count
  • Sudden onset of firm, tender, unilateral parotid swelling
  • Hypoechogenic lesion surrounded by an irregular echogenic rim on U/S indicates abscess collection
  • Polymicrobial
