Surgical resection is not recommended among patients with metastatic linitis plastica. Total gastrectomy is recommended for the management of local disease.[1]

Surgery

  • The very fast growing nature of linitis plastica and the difficulty in diagnosing it early, makes surgical resection challenging.
  • As the disease is often diagnosed at a very advanced stage, usually with metastasis from peritoneal and lymphatic spread, surgical resection is not recommended among patients with metastatic linitis plastica.[1]
  • For patients with local disease, total gastrectomy along with chemotherapy and radiation before or following the surgery is recommended.[1]
