Overview
MRI
- The MR signal intensity of biliary cystadenoma is variable on both T1- and T2-weighted images, depending on the content of the cyst fluid.[1]
- There are no specific imaging features that permit reliable differentiation of biliary cystadenoma from cystadenocarcinoma. An irregular thickness of the cyst wall, presence of mural nodules, or papillary projections indicates the possibility of a malignancy.[2]
- MRI may provide further information concerning the nature of the fluid in the cyst, blood versus mucin.
