Overview
Pertussis can be diagnosed through the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test, as well as the Direct Flourescent Antibody (DFA) and Pulsed-field Gel Eletrophoresis tests.
Other Diagnostic Studies
- Polymerase chain reaction (PCR)
- Direct fluorescent antibody (DFA) testing
- Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE)
- PFGE is a DNA fingerprinting technique that has the following advantages:[3]
- Highly discriminating in its results.[4]
- Easily applicable to Bordetella pertussis.[4]
- Stable and easily reproduced.[4]
- PFGE's drawbacks include duration of time to perform as well as required a specifically trained and skilled technician.[4]
- PFGE is a DNA fingerprinting technique that has the following advantages:[3]
