Natural History

About 50% of patients with acute uncomplicated cystitis will recover without treatment within a few days or weeks.

Complications

• Chronic or recurrent urinary tract infection
• Complicated UTI (pyelonephritis)
• Acute renal failure

Prognosis

• Most cases of cystitis are uncomfortable but disappear without complication after treatment.'
