Laboratory Findings
The gold standard laboratory study for the diagnosis of boils is by pus culture. [1] A sample of pus from the furuncle is sent for culture and sensitivity and may reveal:
- Staphylococcus aureus growth is most commonly seen. However, other types of bacteria may also be seen.
- Results of sensitivity helps to guide the antibiotic regimen to be used
