Medical Therapy

Treatment aims to:

• Remove the fluid.
• Prevent fluid from building up again.
• Treating the cause of the fluid buildup.
• Therapeutic thoracentesis.

Treatment depends on the underlying cause of the pleural effusion. In some cases, the following may be done:

• Chemotherapy.
• Pleurodesis
