Historical Perspective
- Sore throat was first described in the literature as 'some variants of sore throat' in the year 1879 by R. L. BOWLES, M.D., in the british medical journal.[1]
- Later, David Newman, M.D., described pathology, symptoms and treatment of pharyngitis in his lectures at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary, during the winter session of 1885.[2]
- Dr. Donelan illistrated the imporatance of bacteriological tests in doubtful cases of pharyngitis.[3]
- In 1931, WM. W. PRIDDLE, B.A., M.D., described three case reports and inferred that chronic nontuberculous bronchial disease such as influenza, whooping-cough and measles are associated with a chronic naso-pharyngitis and also described the importance of conservative treatment in chronic naso pharyngitis.[4]
