- Riedel's thyroiditis was reported to the International Congress of Surgery by Bernhard Riedel in 1894 and 1896. He gave a complete description of the disease.[2][3]
- Riedel described 2 patients with a hard goiter and tracheal compressive symptoms and initially, it was considered to be a fibrous variant of Hashimoto's thyroiditis.[4][5]
