Overview
Thyroiditis refers to an inflammation of the thyroid gland.
Classification
- The most common form of thyroiditis is Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
- Resolving thyroiditis
- DeQuervain's Thyroiditis or Granulomatous Thyroiditis
- Postpartum thyroiditis
- Silent thyroiditis
- Rare forms of thyroiditis
Differentiating Thyroiditis from Other Diseases
Conditions | Causes | Age at onset | Pathological findings | Diagnostic approach |
---|---|---|---|---|
Hashimoto's thyroiditis |

Painful subacute (De Quervain's) thyroiditis |

Suppurative thyroiditis |

- Thyroiditis can be differentiated on the basis of history and symptoms and laboratory findings from other causes of hypothyroidism:[1][2][3][4][5][6]
