Overview
Ultrasound may be helpful in the diagnosis of fibroadenoma. Findings on ultrasound suggestive of fibrodenoma include a well-circumscribed, round to ovoid, macrolobulated mass that is generally uniformly hypoechogenic.[1]
Ultrasound
Ultrasound may be helpful in the diagnosis of fibroadenoma. It is the most commonly used breast imaging method in adolescents. It can determine if a mass is solid or cystic. Findings on ultrasound suggestive of fibrodenoma include:[1]
- A well-circumscribed, round to ovoid, macrolobulated mass
- Generally uniform hypoechogenicity
- Surrounded by a thin echogenic rim (pseudocapsule)
- Calcification may be detectable in 10% of the cases
