Overview
Primary Prevention
The single most important factor that can prevent the development of mesenteric ischemia is control of the underlying comorbidites.
The following lifestyle changes can reduce your risk for narrowing of the arteries:
- Exercise
- Following a healthy diet
- Treatment for a heart arrhythmia
- Keeping blood cholesterol under control
- Control of blood pressure
- Cessation of smoking
To prevent acute mesenteric artery ischemia, also control any heart rhythm problems that may cause the blood to clot.
