Overview
A gastrointestinal or GI series is an X-ray exam of the small intestine subsequent to barium ingestion. On upper GI series, the Meckel's diverticulum appears as a smooth, white, globular mass located 50cm proximal to the ileocecal valve and arising from the antimesenteric border of the ileum.
X Ray
- In patients with GI bleeding, plain abdominal X Ray is non specific.
- Upper GI series with small-bowel follow-through may help in the detection of a diverticulum.
