Usage of lactulose is helpful in prevention of HE in patients with cirrhosis and acute variceal bleeding.[1]
Usage of lactitol or rifaximin is not effective in the prophylaxis of hepatic encephalopathy during the first month after a transjugular-intrahepatic-portosystemic-shunt (TIPS).
