Overview
Primary Prevention
- Usage of lactulose is helpful in prevention of HE in patients with cirrhosis and acute variceal bleeding.[1]
- Lactulose may be effective to prevent of recurrence of hepatic encephalopathy in patients with cirrhosis.[2]
- Usage of lactitol or rifaximin is not effective in the prophylaxis of hepatic encephalopathy during the first month after a transjugular-intrahepatic-portosystemic-shunt (TIPS).[3]
