Ultrasound may be helpful in the diagnosis of sialolithiasis. Findings on ultrasound suggestive of sialolithiasis include hyperechoic points or lines with distal acoustic shadowing and dilation of excretory duct.

- Small stones less than 2 cm may not have shadow
- Ultrasound can detect stones that are radiolucent
- In acute obstructive cases due to sialolithiasis, ther excretory duct may be dilated.

- Ultrasound is done with intra oral probes.
