- Patients are usually well-appearing
- Patients are sometimes ruddy-appearing
Vital Signs
Skin
- Bruises
- Petechiae
- Ulcers
- Plethora in face
- Gouty nodules
- Post-phlebitis syndrome if deep vein thrombosis develops
- Erythema in extremities
HEENT
- Decreased vision acuity
- Numbness of weakness from cerebrovascular event
Neck
Lungs
- Vesicular breath sounds
- Wheezing
Abdomen
- Splenomegaly: The spleen size can expand to greater than 20 cm. The etiology for splenomegaly is extramedullary hematopoiesis.
