Overview
Findings on an ultrasound suggestive of Sjögren's syndrome are hypoechoic and inhomogeneous salivary glands, parenchymal inhomogeneity in the submandibular glands and focal or diffuse hypoechoic or anechoic foci in glands.
Echocardiography/Ultrasound
- Ultrasound may be helpful in the diagnosis of Sjögren's syndrome. Findings on an ultrasound suggestive of Sjögren's syndrome include:[1][2][3][4]
- Hypoechoic and inhomogeneous salivary glands
- Parenchymal inhomogeneity in the submandibular glands
- Focal or diffuse hypoechoic or anechoic foci in glands
- Atrophic submandibular glands (sagittal diameter <8 mm)
- Enlarged parotid glands (sagittal diameter >20 mm)
