There is no single diagnostic study of choice for diagnosing urethral cancer. Cystourethroscopy is useful to evaluate the extent of the disease. Definitive diagnosis is made with transurethral biopsies.

- Cystourethroscopy is done to evaluate the extent of the disease.[1]
- Retrograde urethrography in men is used to find the exact location and extent of the disease.
- Definitive diagnosis is made with transurethral biopsy.
- CT and MRI is used to evaluate spread of cancer and to exclude metastasis
- Bone scan : Only if there are symptoms and an elevated level of Alkaline Phosphatase.
