Overview

Iron deficiency anemia can lead to significant load on heart as it causes a state of hyperdynamic circulation in the body. Echocardiographic findings of heart failure may be present.

Echocardiography or Ultrasound

  • On echocardiography, these findings may be seen[1]:
    • Increased thickness of left ventricular wall.
    • Increased volume of left ventricular cavity.
    • Systolic dysfunction and diastolic dysfunction in some cases.
