Although the etiology for the development of kidney cancer are not well understood, epidemic data shows the effective measures for the primary prevention of renal cell carcinoma include followings:
- Early screening and treating genetic and hereditary diseases
- Changing lifestyle
- Smoking cessation
- Controlling weight
- Decreasing exposure to occupational risk factors including:
- Asbestos
- Cadmium
- Benzene
- Herbicides
- Organic solvents particularly trichloroethylene
- Early detection and control of hypertension
