Overview
The secondary mode of prevention of pneumomediastinum is to prevent recurrence or malignant cases.
Secondary Prevention
Secondary modes of preventing pneumomediastinum include:[1][2][3]
- In case of spontaneous pneumomediastinum without any complications, patients are required to be hospitalized for 24 hours for observational purposes.
- Regular follow-ups are required to avoid recurrence or development of malignant pneumomediastinum.
- Quit tobacco smoking.
- Quit recreational drug use.
- Keep medical condition, which may progress to pneumomediastinum suche as asthma, COPD, mediastinitis or pneumonia under control with proper medical therapy.
