Overview

Breast mammogram may be helpful in the diagnosis of fibroadenoma. On breast mammogram, fibroadenomas appear homogeneous with well circumscribed nodules.

Other Imaging Findings

Mammography

  • Breast mammogram may be helpful in the diagnosis of fibroadenoma.
  • On mammogram, fibroadenoma is characterized by:[1][2]
  • Homogenous and well circumscribed nodules with smooth round edges
  • Isodence or hypodense compared to normal breast glandular tissue
  • Partially obscured margins or macro lobulation
  • Inner coarse calcifications are often observed (mostly in postmenopausal women)
  • It is not recommended for use in women <30 years because of the density of the breast tissue in this population.[3]
