Overview

Surgery is the first-line treatment option for patients with oligodendroglioma. CSF shunting is usually reserved for patients with hydrocephalus.

Surgery

Surgical Resection

CSF Shunt

  • CSF shunting is performed to relieve the pressure in the brain due to blockade in the flow of cerebrospinal fluid due to oligodendroglioma.[5]
    • External ventricular drain - temporary shunt
    • Internal drain - permanent shunt
      • Drains CSF into the patient’s abdomen where it is absorbed into the body
