overview
Primary prevention
Nausea can be prevented by:
- eating frequent small meals instead of three large meals
- eating slowly
- consuming foods that are easy to digest
- consuming food that is cold or at room temperature since smell of warm or hot food can cause nausea
- resting after eating keeping the head elevated
- drinking fluids between meals instead of during meals
Vomiting (after feeling nauseated) can be prevented by:
- consuming small amounts of clear, sweet liquids such as soda pop, popsicles and fruit juices that are not too acidic
- avoid activity and rest in sitting or propped lying position
- ginger is shown to be useful in prevention of nausea and vomiting [1]
