Overview
Causes
The exact cause of angiodysplasia is unknown, but there are different theories:
1) Degenerative changes of small blood vessels associated with ageing (most widely accepted theory).
2) Long-term local hypo-oxygenation of the microcirculation from cardiac, vascular, or pulmonary disease leading to angiogenesis mediated by various chemical mediators like vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), angiopoietin. [1]
