Overview
Pericarditis has been associated with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD). Treatement with drugs containing 5-aminosalicylic acid have been associated with the development of pericarditis in inflammatory bowel disease.[1]
Since 1967, it's been estimated more than one in three IBD patients experience pericarditis and/or myocarditis. Those with Crohn's disease seem to be at a lower risk than ulcerative colitis. Ulcerative colitis may also be associated with endocarditis.[2]
