Risk Factors
Risk factors for stroke include:
- Advanced age
- Hypertension
- Previous stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA)
- Diabetes
- High cholesterol
- Cigarette smoking
- Atrial fibrillation
- Migraine with aura
- Thrombophilia (a tendency to thrombosis)
Blood pressure is the most important modifiable risk factor of stroke.
