Overview
Intrapulmonary percussive ventilators (IPV) are machines which deliver short bursts of air through a mouthpiece to help individuals with lung disease clear sputum. The air is delivered at a rate of 150 times a minute and may be used with nebulized medication. IPV is used to assist individuals with cystic fibrosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's disease), emphysema, and other such lung ailments.
