Overvivew
History
A directed history should be obtained to ascertain
- Constitutional symptoms like night sweats, fever, weight loss suggesting tuberculosis, Hodgkin's lymphoma, other malignancy
- Associated signs and symptoms for suggesting infections or malignancy
- History of usage of drugs causing lymphadenopathy
- History of travel to endemic areas
- High risk behaviour - high risk sexual behaviour, I.V drug abuse
Symptoms
Lymphadenopathy per se can present as
- Lump in the neck (e.g in tumors, sarcoidosis).
- Red, tender skin over lymph node.
- Swollen, tender, or hard lymph nodes.
Most of the times patients present with symptoms of the causative factors of lymphadenopathy, like
